To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter in endorsement of the Circle of One and their project, Coming Home: the Art of Traditional Medicine in Partnership with Modern Science, in which I believe very strongly. A project of this sort has been long overdue and fills detrimental shortcomings found in conventional medical practice.

I am a physician and the Medical Director of a Canadian multi-disciplinary medical clinic that offers both conventional and complementary medical services. On a daily basis in my medical practice, I work within the limitations of the mechanical model of disease, which is an important component of the modern medical paradigm. This paradigm was the result of a late seventeenth century revolution in medicine and biology. It replaced the holism of the pre-modern theory of medicine with a Cartesian dualism of the mind and body. No event in the history of modern medicine has had more profound consequences. The current limitations that many practitioners of medicine encounter result ultimately from this erroneous materialist conception of the human being. Countless patients attest to these limitations as a result of their own disappointing experiences with the modern medical system.

There is an urgent need for a return to a holistic and spiritually centered approach to healing. It is only through the wisdom of the great systems of traditional medicine that the deficiencies in modern medical theory and practice can be remedied. This will require the collaboration of both modern medical science and traditional medical systems such as Chinese Medicine, Unani Medicine, Tibetan Medicine, and Ayurveda.

Mr. Kashani has taken an important step forward in this direction. Significant potential is to be found in his proposed project of writing a manual on traditional healing and medicine that will be used to train physicians in the traditional healing arts.

During my multiple conversations with Mr. Kashani, I have been struck by his incredible drive and passion for this work. He speaks from a position of knowledge in the traditional medical world, and at the same time he comprehends the need for articulating its concepts in terms that modern science can understand and utilize for its own benefit.

I enthusiastically support the Circle of One project as a medical partner and I am deeply hopeful that this venture finds your support as well. And I am privileged to have the opportunity to give it my endorsement.

Sincerely,

Dr. Zafer Mian
